Originally a special for HBO, this Jim Henson production (he also directed) was one of the first real forays into the more realistic, less vaudevillian direction for the Muppets. It also included Frank Oz (Muppeteer), Paul Williams (songs), and Jerry Juhl (script), some of the Muppet Show's usual suspects. Emmet Otter and his jug band are trying out in the local talent show, but they face fierce competition from a gang of toughs, the Riverbottom Gang and their rock band. Perhaps the most notable thing is the creation of a sense of poverty and want that suffuses the little production. Even Emmet's mother, who sacrifices her washtub to further Emmet's cause, gets in the act. Fine Christmas viewing for all ages. --Keith Simanton

A great family Christmas story that shows values. I grew up watching this on vhs. I'm so happy that my son can watch it, too!!

My daughter and I watched this together when it first aired. We caught it a few times and then couldn't find it. We saw it for sale on Amazon.com last year. We bought one for each other, thinking we were sneaky and going to surprise the other. Now we've watched it with her sons, my grandchildren. It is a lovely life lesson about caring, self-sacrifice, and love. It's been told many ways but the otters just make it soooo cute.
I can't watch it enough; nor can I recommend it to everyone enough!!

This is a great family DVD for Christmas. I saw it years ago on TV and haven't seen it since. I was happy to get this on Amazon. I love that Messin On a Barbeque song!

The product arrived in new condition, and it arrived quickly. When I went to play it in an older model DVD player, it would skip. When played in a newer model, the DVD was fine.
